Dear Sir or Madam,
After the focus in our last Newsletter was on transparent conductive films manufactured by PolyIC - our PolyTC product line -, the central issue of this PolyIC-Newsletter is our PolyLogo® product line. PolyLogo® stands for radio activated displays and smart objects. In the first column of this newsletter, we tell you what radio activated displays and smart objects are. The next column “Technology” will inform you about the technology used. Then, you will learn more about the future fields of application of our product line PolyLogo®.
PolyLogo® is now also available for field tests. Read more about this and contact our product manager for further information.
And finally, read about our presence on the next international exhibitions where you can meet us live in presentations or directly for a personal talk.
Enjoy reading our newsletter!
Yours,
Wolfgang Mildner

| Knowledge: What are smart objects and what is a PolyLogo®? |
| Smart objects are systems of various components of printed electronics, such as input elements (keyboards), displays, sources of energy (e.g. batteries, solar cells), sensors as well as control electronics. |
From these components, a host of new applications can be realized. For example, a combination of a printed battery with a logic circuit, an input element and a display can be made into a disposable sensor, a game or an information display. At PolyIC, such smart objects are compiled under the brand name of PolyLogo®. The starting point in this product series is represented by a radio activated display that can switch a display element with previously defined information through radio wave energy input. The PolyIC product name for the radio activated displays is PolyLogo®-RAD, where RAD stands for Radio Activated Display. The next column gives a detailed explanation of such a component. |

Technology: PolyLogo®-RAD radio activated displays - all you have to know about the technical aspects |
| The products of the PolyLogo® line at PolyIC are manufactured on polyester substrates in roll-to-roll production. The outcome of the production process is a roll that contains the individual components on a base substrate. The components of this roll can be laminated into cards or packagings using standard converting technologies. The impressive thinness of the PolyLogo®-RADs is of great benefit for the integration in cards or packagings (e.g. tickets, vouchers, etc.). The following deals primarily with PolyLogo®-RAD cards as they will be the main form of processing in the beginning. |

Applications: PolyLogo®-RAD - how you can use them |
| PolyLogo®-RAD radio activated displays allow an interactive connection with the user. The user receives a card or packaging with the integrated display PolyLogo®-RAD. In order to see the hidden contents of the display integrated in the PolyLogo®-RAD, the user holds the card or packaging near an activation unit. Typical applications are in the field of product marketing, in games or trademark and authenticity protection. In the area of product marketing, for instance, the separate distribution of PolyLogo®-RAD and location of activation can be made of use. That means, the user is motivated to visit a shop or exhibition booth to activate the display of the PolyLogo®-RAD. The display may then, for instance, show a discount or a prize previously unknown. When the application scenarios are skillfully chosen, the elements of game, marketing and trademark protection can be combined in the surprise effect of the active display. |

Prototypes of the radio activated displays on rolls are now available at PolyIC. These thin and flexible inlays can be further processed into cards in credit card format. This allows for the first time to endow innovative marketing campaigns with the application potential of printed electronics. Our customers are thus given the opportunity to discover the realm of printed electronics and benefit from their potential. Possible fields of application are, for instance, the support of trade fair performance, promotional campaigns or customer retention activities. To this end, PolyIC can offer the complete system of custom designed cards and the required activators, including any technical support. Contact our product manager, we will be happy to discuss your application scenarios and the options for designing the cards.
These field tests are for getting started in the volume production of radio activated displays. New product requirements can be gained from the practical application which can then be integrated into the further development. The functionality of the printed, radio activated displays will be extended as the development progresses and be adapted to the growing possibilities of printed electronics. As mentioned in the introduction, this allows access to a broad range of new applications and markets. |

Preview: Meet PolyIC at SID 2011 in Los Angeles, USA |
PolyIC will exhibit at SID, International Symposium, Seminar and Exhibition, which will take place in Los Angeles, USA from May 15th to 20th, 2011. PolyIC's main focus of this exhibition is on transparent conductive films, called PolyTC. These films can be used as a alternative to ITO. Fields of application are e.g. touch sensors, displays, EMI and ESD protection or heating elements.
PolyIC will exhibit in the “German Pavilion”.
