PolyIC and LEONHARD KURZ to present automotive and home appliance highlights at embedded world 2023

Fürth/Germany, 8 March 2023: embedded world, the international trade fair for embedded systems, will take place in Nuremberg from March 14 to 16, 2023. Almost 1,000 exhibitors from all over the world will be presenting their innovations in various areas, including hardware, systems, tools, electronic displays, application software, and security. At stand 1-270, PolyIC, a subsidiary of LEONHARD KURZ and a specialist for touch applications with a focus on high-performance sensor labels, will present highlights for the automotive and home appliances sectors.

Flexible sensor with a high degree of customization

PolyIC and KURZ use the new PolyTC® VarioSym solution to demonstrate how innovative sensor technologies can be used to make production processes and procedures more efficient, cut down on work steps, and save resources.

This is a sensor that, on the one hand, enables opaque decoration and, on the other, can be designed completely individually. To top it off, the new technology no longer requires all components (touch sensor, diffuser, and opaque top layer) to be applied separately. Instead, the sensor combines all relevant technical layers. In contrast to conventional manufacturing processes, the PolyTC® VarioSym eliminates one component and one work step, which enables more efficient, cost-saving production. The black, opaque, and non-conductive top layer enables the digital lasering of custom icons, letterings, and structures. The fact that this step is carried out by the customers themselves, directly before the sensor is installed, provides a completely new freedom of design. On the other hand, tailor-made customization using lasers ensures a particularly clean display, as there is no offset and therefore no rejects.

Intelligent technologies for automotive and home appliances

PolyTC® VarioSym can be used to display various functionalities, including as a touch button, rotary wheel, or slider. The application will be demonstrated at embedded world using the example of elegant washing machine panels. Based on an LED display, visitors can experience for themselves the homogeneous illumination and the filigree representation of symbols and controls.

Using an LCD display stack-up with IMD decorated plastic surfaces and PolyTC® multitouch sensors, PolyIC and KURZ also demonstrate the seamless display integration of PolyTC® technology. Different versions show the differences of the stack-ups and the advantages versus conventional systems based on glass.

Other highlights of PolyIC’s trade fair presentation include innovative Human-Machine Interface (HMI) solutions for the automotive industry. At embedded world, the specialist for touch applications will be presenting how high-quality functional elements with wafer-thin, adaptable touch sensors can be seamlessly integrated into the complex components of the instrument cluster, instrument panel, or door strip, so that design and functionality merge together.

Expert presentations convey practical knowledge

In addition to the innovations presented by PolyIC at stand 1-270, the company also offers additional specialist presentations for trade fair visitors. At the embedded world Conference, Johannes Schad, Product Manager Appliances & Consumer Devices at PolyIC, will talk about touch sensors with a diffuser layer and customizable laser decoration. Dr. Wolfgang Clemens, Director Product Management & Business Development at PolyIC, will give an insight into the topic of in-mold decorated plastic touchscreen panels for the automotive and home appliances sectors at the accompanying conference for electronic displays.
